Hard to believe that I met Nicola back in the fall of 1998, during field hockey pre-season. (WHAT? Nineteen years.) She was the first person I had ever met that shared my mom's name, a fairly uncommon name that few know isn't pronounced 'Nicole-a' (and to this day, I've never met another Nicola!). She had just transferred to our little school and maybe most importantly, had transferred to a much better field hockey team!
I met up with Nicola, Dave and their two girls, Kiara and Leigh on the beach in the shadow of Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth, just down the hill from the iconic Portland Head Light. Since the girls are only 15 months apart they are almost like twins, Leigh doing her best to keep up with her big sister, achieving that fete much of the time. There was only one slip on the rocks (as evidenced by one dirty bum!) and shoes came off pretty quickly to put toes in the ocean, water colder than these southern girls are used to!
Thank you, Nic, for reaching out and meeting up on the last night of your Maine vacation! Was so much fun meeting the girls and visiting with you guys. Hope you love all of these as much as I do!
